The Hidden Dilemma of the United States of America - By Keval Jani
Is the United States of America funding and strengthening its biggest
adversary by supporting Ukraine in the Russo-Ukrainian war? The United States
of America has been actively engaged in providing financial support, military
weapons, and intelligence aid to Ukraine since the day the Federation of Russia
invaded Ukraine.
The West and the NATO nations think that they are weakening one of their
biggest rivals, the Russian Federation, by using a low-cost option in the form
of Ukraine to weaken Russia militarily and financially. Well, in that case, the
West might have the advantage that they are depleting Russian resources without
even a single direct casualty on their side. There is no doubt that the US is
fighting a proxy war with Russia by using Ukraine and its military as a
low-cost indirect option for the war.
That is what the US military think tank is all about. But, as a
political researcher, I concluded some unbiased outcomes. The talks are about
the Ukraine-Russia war, but on the basis of my conclusion, I see that the
United States is for sure strengthening and supporting North Korea indirectly
without being aware of it. On the basis of some in-depth and unbiased research
on international politics, I can say that US support for Ukraine in the ongoing
war is an indirect step to strengthen the North Korean regime, and it seems to
ensure that the Kim regime might continue to stay in power for decades due to
the American mistake in Ukraine.
Is it unbelievable? I have some solid points to prove it. Below, I have
covered the major aspects of understanding what I call a ‘Hidden Dilemma of the
United States of America’.
- America’s support for Ukraine makes Russia and China even closer to
the DPRK (North Korea).
Until now (before the Russian invasion of Ukraine), the North Korean
regime was desperate to have strong relations with Russia and China to secure
itself from any threat from the US. The North Korean regime has always been
afraid of a US-led invasion, and hence it has always wanted to be a junior ally
of powerful nations like China and Russia to ensure its defense (China helped
defend North Korea in 1948 by direct military intervention). But what now?
Tables have turned upside down due to the American mistake. Now, Russia is more
desperate to have North Korea as its ally, and when Russia gets closer to North
Korea, Beijing (China) is bound to pursue North Korea financially to enjoy
healthy relations as a key partner. Why? China doesn’t want the American or
NATO military at its doorsteps, and North Korea acts as a buffer. China uses
minimum military resources at the North Korean border and maximizes resource
usage at the Indo-China border. The fall of the North Korean regime will end
China’s dream of showing power at Indian borders as its resources will be
diverted. Today, it isn’t North Korea that is looking for an alliance with
Russia and China; rather, those two powerful communist countries want North
Korea desperately. As per some recent reports, North Korea supplied millions of
artillery shells and other weapons to the Russian Federation to continue the
war in Ukraine, backed by the US. Russia is a resource-rich country—nearly a
superpower, in my words. Russia can give North Korea highly developed missile systems
and satellite technology. Russian technology and missile systems are almost
equivalent to those of the US. In that case, North Korea will directly get
US-like missile systems and technology within a few months, which would have
taken decades of research and resources to develop and work upon. North Korea
moved decades ahead in this section just because US aid to Ukraine made Russia
shake hands with a junior ally like North Korea.
As history suggests, if Russia will give such heavy systems to North
Korea, then China will also contribute to the bid, as China can also need them
if it invades Taiwan in the future. Both Russia and China know very well that
North Korea is one of the world’s rarest countries that will go against the
whole world to do what it wants as it is a nuclear power. Today, as a mistake
of the US to extremely backup Ukraine against Russia, North Korea became a
prominent ally of Russia and China, and this secures the Kim regime in any case
of aggression or invasion on it as both Russia and China are to come to its
aid. (China has already had a military defense treaty with North Korea since
the 1960s.) America helped North Korea become an important ally of communist powers
by aiding Ukraine, which is still lagging in its so-called counter-offensive.
America’s dream and decades-old efforts to isolate North Korea have been
massively drained over the past 1.5 years. If I had been a part of the US
military think tank, then I would have suggested letting Ukraine fall to
Russia, negotiating North Korea with Russia and China, and clearing off one of
the biggest American adversaries.
- Friends of friends with the same rival are indeed good friends!
America has always wanted to isolate North Korea from the rest of the
world because of its nuclear weapons program. The US has made efforts since a
decade to isolate North Korea by pushing sanctions on it under the ‘CAATSA’
(Countering American Adversaries Through Sanctions Act). Hence, the hermit
kingdom (North Korea) is not able to freely trade at the international level,
which results in its shrinking economy and regime capabilities. But when North
Korea openly supported Russia against US-backed Ukraine, it proved to the world
that North Korea is a prominent supporter during such times of war. Now, Russia
is not North Korea; Russia is like a superpower, and it has a group of allies
supporting it. As a result, North Korea has become a direct member of the group
of Russian allies, and it has made new friends. Iran, Niger, Syria, China,
Lebanese militants, and numerous militant groups like Wagner are very powerful
Russian allies, and North Korea has directly become their friend by coming to
the epicenter of world politics. Iran and Syria have massive combat experience,
and Iran has the most secretive weapons in the world. Today, the North Korean
regime is a direct friend with a group of nations, and the reach is even to the
African continent. North Korea, which was largely isolated in the past few
decades, has come to join a group of countries just due to the mistake of the
Americans to largely backup Ukraine against Russia, and Ukraine nowhere seems
to return some benefit to the US even after consuming American resources worth
$100 billion. Iran has been under ‘CAATSA’ for 40 years, and it has learned and
proven to survive and evade American sanctions. Won’t Iran teach North Korea
about it? Won’t it ensure the North Korean regime stays in power for a long time
by evading US sanctions? Won’t it drain the efforts that US governments have
made by pushing sanctions and executing strategic patience against North Korea?
It is very clear that the US can’t directly invade North Korea like Iraq, as it
has nuclear weapons and the South Korean capital Seoul (a US ally) is
practically held as a hostage on the gunpoint of North Korea. In any case of
such an invasion, the first day itself could result in millions of South Korean
and American casualties in Seoul.
So, whatever it was possible for the Americans to do was to isolate the
North Korean regime and execute strategic patience to let the regime get weak
and fall on its own. But the aid to Ukraine and weakened Russia resulted in the
rise of North Korean importance, and this has drained American decades-old
efforts for sure.
- The staged food crisis in North Korea is on the verge of ending!
As the US and the Western world pushed for sanctions on North Korea, it
faced one of the worst food crises in human history. From ‘Arduous March’ to
the present day, North Korea faces a heavy food shortage due to a ban on
imports due to sanctions. The US think tank assumed under the strategic
patience policy that the food crisis in North Korea will someday or another
lead to a rebellion and uprising against the regime, and it will cause an
automatic downfall of the Kim regime. Well, it was slowly working in that
direction by pushing down the North Korean regime. But now that North Korea has
provided lethal weapons aid to Russia in the ongoing war, it has a chance to
negotiate exchanges with Russia. North Korea can easily ask for food and grains
from Russia, and Russia won’t mind it as it has supremacy in resources and
grains. Russia would be very happy to receive weapons in exchange for grains.
This will help North Korea feed its population and solve the food crisis and
shortage in the country. It will also avoid any possible rebellion, revolution,
or uprising from the common people of North Korea. Hence, the strategic
patience with which the US has executed since decades with an expectation of a
possible uprising in North Korea has also been drained by the scenario changes
after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Instead, if the US had not backed
Ukraine, Russia would have toppled the Zelensky regime (Ukraine) in a few
months, and then there is no question of strengthening North Korean relations.
Ukraine has nothing to offer the US even after investing billions of dollars,
while liabilities increase for the US as North Korea gains ground in the
political scenario. Maybe Ukraine offered some outcome as thousands of Russian
soldiers died in the war and it has weakened the Russian military and also
depleted the military resources of the federation, but this might work very
well for North Korea to rise as a prominent and promising ally of the communist
world.
- Forex game!
Every country needs forex reserves (foreign currencies, especially the
US dollar) for importing goods from the international market, as currently the
USD dominates the international market. Due to decades of sanctions, North
Korea faces a massive shortage of foreign reserves, limiting its ability to
export products from other countries. But now that North Korea is closer to a
group of nations, it can get foreign reserves for the exchange of some of its
weapons, which will help the Kim regime import products from the international
market and eventually give some support to the dying economy of North Korea.
China has one of the highest foreign reserves in the world, and it can give a
small portion to North Korea and make it survive in exchange for its support in
scenarios like the Russia-Ukraine war. Anyhow, North Korea seems to be evading
the forex shortage as of now. It can also be seen as a big blow to the efforts
of the Americans to isolate the North Korean economy through decades-old
sanctions.
- Rise in the weapons industry in North Korea
Until now, North Korea used to execute the production and manufacturing
of weapons and artillery for its own army. Due to the Ukraine-Russia war and
the US constantly backing Ukraine, Russia is in dire need of artillery and
weapons. North Korea has a huge stockpile to sell to Russia in exchange for
anything it wants (like food, foreign reserves, or a defense guarantee). As the
war between Ukraine and Russia continues due to US backing for Ukraine, North
Korea knows that Russia will need artillery and weapons in the near future.
Also, the Middle East has become unstable due to the Israel-Palestine conflict,
and hence, North Korea sees it as an opportunity to sell its weapons. On the
basis of some in-depth research, it appears that the North Korean weapon industry
is on the rise and has seen a major boost in the past few decades. It has also
led to a rise in employment in North Korea as workers are required in the
weapon production facilities. It acts as an opportunity for North Korea to make
quick cash, food, and relations, and it also boosts local employment, making
the people of the nation happy, which ensures a cakewalk for the Kim regime.
The illegal weapons industry might be unethical, but is North Korea afraid of
anything unethical? If the US raises concerns about it, then has the US ever
fought a war ethically? So, there is no honest side to claim moral ground in
the conflict.
As more conflicts occur in the
world, North Korea is appearing to become a promising weapons supplier, thanks
to American aid to Ukraine against the Russian invasion.
Just in order to make Russia weak militarily, the US heavily backed
Ukraine, which resulted in North Korea’s (the biggest American adversary) rise
on a global platform. Even after investing $100 billion in Ukraine’s military,
NATO-backed Ukraine hasn’t been able to retake its territories, and Russia
continues to occupy a major chunk of Eastern Ukraine as of today. War suggests
a stalemate with no side (Russia, Ukraine, or America) emerging clearly
victorious. But North Korea seems to have won the war even without fighting an
actual war, as American mistakes solved many of its decade’s old problems and
challenges.
